About a year older than me. My dad had one of these, this year, this color, but add a perpetually stained white vinyl top.

not exactly, but the F-16 has put on a few pounds too. And it is a cool pic.

I've got a book of US fighters that I picked up in the late '70s. It stops with the F-16 and the YF-17, noting that the Cobra was the loser to the F-16 in the lightweight fighter competition. They were hoping to sell it to the Navy. I've looked at the line drawings of the YF-17, and it's interesting to see the changes that took place between the YF-17 and the F/A-18. It's a bit hard to tell why the Hornet looks so much better than the YF-17. Big differences in the nose and the dorsal ridge, mostly. Those prototypes are still intact somewhere, aren't they?
